The Homestead Ikamatua new zealand fly fishing at its best

We invite you to our 120-year-old wooden Farm Homestead, set amongst mature oak trees in a rural setting on the bank of the Rough River in the province of Westland in the South Island of New Zealand. Your hosts, Bill and Jan Clayton, are 3rd generation farmers -- sheep, cattle, horses, pigs, etc.

The Homestead provides Fly Fishing, Horse Trekking and Farmstay Accommodation. The Homestead not only is able to provide fishing and horse trekking right on the property but also provides high country trips taking guests fishing into river systems that very few in the world get to see and access.

Over the years Bill and Jan have entertained guests from all over the world ranging from North America to Japan and looked after groups, couples, families and individuals. They enjoy sharing with guests the scenic area of New Zealand they grew up in and providing a unique and tailored experience.

The Rough River flows from the nearby Paparoa Ranges in the newly-created National Park, and winds its way down through beech forests, then past high fertile river flats used extensively for dairying. A feature of the Paparoa Ranges is a pass through the top, known locally as "Gunsight Pass."
